Collection: Carburettor

Carburettor was inspired by the bold, angular lettering style often used on vintage automotive and electrical advertising and packaging. Tapered strokes and sharp, wedge-shaped horizontals suggest grit, punch, determination and power. The angled terminals are reminiscent of a flat pen, but the font is constructed rather than drawn, sidestepping some of the idiosyncrasies of a more traditional calligraphic approach. A close cousin might be Fanfare, designed by Louis Oppenheim for German foundry Berthold in 1927, though Carburettor’s more contemporary and consistent shapes owe less to the Germanic blackletter. The italic sports cursive versions of the a and f, and optional swoop-legged alternatives are provided for the R and K, addressed via a Stylistic Set. There are also alternative forms for the A, M, N, O and Q, and three versions of the lowercase g.
