Collection: Greystoke
Greystoke is a utilitarian sans with a low x-height and generous letter spacing. Free of frills and affectations, it is a universal font that could have been designed any time in the last 100 years. Stroke terminals are cut vertically, and the t, j and Q are simple verticals without hooks. The letter widths fall between an early ‘ruler-and-compass’ design such as Futura and a more humanist sans, and the italic is a straightforward reweighted upright without cursive interventions. Greystoke could be of American descent, borrowing the design of the Q from Intertype’s Vogue, a ubiquitous midcentury sans originally designed in 1930 for Vogue magazine as a rival to Futura (1927) and Kabel (also 1927). Strangely familiar yet brand new, it feels like it has always been here. Includes an optional double-storey a in all weights, an alternative y and ampersand, lining and old-style numerals, case-sensitive guillemots and dashes, arrows, and an international character set. Greystoke Soft is a rounded, friendlier version of Greystoke, a utilitarian sans with a low x-height and generous letter spacing. The rounding suggests the slight spread of ink produced by hot-metal print technology.
