Collection: Machinehead

Machinehead is an octagonal sans, available in five weights plus matching italics. The construction means that the lighter the face gets, the squarer it becomes – hence the light is about as light as this design can be before the general aesthetic changes too much. Closely spaced, especially in the heavier weights, and with a high x-height and short ascenders and descenders, it can be set with minimum leading and in tightly-packed blocks to give solid, punchy results. Precursors might be Letraset’s Superstar, which came in rimmed and shadow versions, or ITC Machine, a caps-only headline Typositor font that was available in just two weights.
