Collection: Maisonette
Early typographic modernism flourished on signage for retail outlets and upmarket apartment blocks. Straddling the conceptual bridge between functional and decorative, stripes or waves were popular, often set in gold or silver on black glass; these features could also be found on the hand-drawn custom lettering for magazines and advertisements of the period, an effect achieved by painting opaque white over the inked characters. Maisonette is available in a solid, plus three decorative variants which are best seen at larger sizes. The thick/thin weight distribution is pronounced, and the horizontal strokes are often cut at an angle. Alternatives are provided for the A, E, F, M, N and Q, and a selection of arrows and decorative framing elements that can be flipped and rotated to create borders, or used at the start and end of lines of text, are also included (right).
