Collection: Punk Runic
Runes are angular, linear characters that probably developed from the Phoenician alphabet by way of Raetic, Venetic, Etruscan or Old Latin. Native to Germanic peoples, they spread through Norway, Sweden, Frisia and Denmark, the first examples dating from around AD 150. Evolving into geographically localised forms, they were in use up until the Middle Ages when they were replaced by the Latin alphabet as Christianity spread. More recently they have been pilfered by antiquarians, mystics and fantasy writers, and their aggressive angularity shows up again in Latinised form on punk/new wave record sleeves. Punk Runic does not pretend to faithfully follow any historical model, instead taking inspiration from these myriad sources to present a new design that, as the name suggests, is constructed from both punk rock/new wave and traditional forms combined. Available in two weights, the lowercase keystrokes provide many alternative forms.
