Collection: Substrata

Substrata is an unusual monospaced capitals-only family in which each member has the same stroke weight, but the condensed and extended versions are precisely twice as wide or high as the Regular. This mathematical relationship suggests interesting possibilities in which emphasis can be achieved by varying the width, not the weight. The inky, worn outlines, rounded corners and counters that are beginning to fill in suggest the unfussy simplicity and functional honesty of inkjet printing, die stamping or photocopying. Developed in tandem with Catalysis, Substrata provides a stripped-down alternative with the addition of a full international character set.
